Hello Klaus, Like everyone else, I'm a huge DK fan. The music found me at the perfect time in my life, and now whenever I go back and listen to the albums it brings me back to the good ol' days.

I was wondering if I could trouble you for an autograph? If you have a picture or any DK printouts that would be great, otherwise I could send you an album cover.

My address is xxxx Michigan.

Thanks for the music, Mike

Hey Mike, (fellow Michigander),

Hey Klaus.

Been a fan of DK for a long time, and finally got around to checking out some of your new stuff (I'm quite stubborn about my music, forgive me =])

I'm curious, what is this song called that plays in the background of this website?

Hope all your plans go to plan,

Thanks, Sly.

Hey Sly,

I can get ornery about what I think is good or bad music myself from time to time, and usually end up listening closer another time and place and feel the fool. Make no mistake, I'm not calling you a fool, just saying it happens to the best of us.

Glad you decided to take the dive into the Klaus music pool.

The homepage song is "Akiko" from "Because I Say So". I'm playing everything, but it outs me as a Jeff Beck fan since the 60's tone-wise at least.

Dear Mr. Flouride,
If you want something that you have specifically autographed send it to
If you want me to choose a picture or something send me another email saying "Hell yeah, that's what I want" and I'll get it out in a much more timely fashion.

Thanks for the interest and say hey to your dad for me too.
Hello Klaus,
I am just wondering whether in "I am the Owl" it really should read "a teenie bit QUITER" instead of "quieter".

I really would appreciate your help.

Thank you very much in advance, best wishes for
you and the band, from Anette from beautiful Hamburg

Hey Anette,

Actually I think the spelling is just peachy.

If per chance you're attempting to slyly refer to any of the member of DK past or present, I think you've missed the target.

It seems no one has quit, although some of us are quieter than others.
I think you'd like to read this. It's a very recent interview with Biafra. I'm not trying to get you to say anything bad about Jello. I really don't even have a side on this issue. I just think it'd be good for you to read this. He says he's be willing to do a reunion, but he has a list of conditions and slams you quite a bit.

Hey Patrick,

Sorry I'm in catch-up mode on my emails (will I forever be saying this?). Thanks for the link. I'll pass it on.

Yes, I think he expects a quite a lot too, but that's his prerogative. I don't think he cares much one way or the other about a reunion, he's doing fine following his instincts and people seem to be fine with that. we all carry on and will somehow figure out how to survive not having an original DK's line-up reunion. And what line-up would that be...Ted or D.H.? 6025 included. It's different from whichever angel you're looking.

That sort of makes it like the rest of real life.
Is there really "always room for Jello"?

Hey Bob,

Interesting query. In the grand scheme of things I'd have to say it
depends on what flavor is being dispensed by the school cafeteria at time in question - and is it in those little cubes - and please no Jello salads with little grapes floating around and lettuce under it with mayonnaise (that's usually the lime Jello) - and no, repeat NO Jello molds. But otherwise, who knows. My semi-educated guess would be that it depends on the lunch schedule. Or just yes. You pick.

How did being involved in a civil trial against Jello disqualify you from serving on a jury in a drunk driving case? I ended up on that jury and never understood your rationale.

Hey Donny,

That was one of the questions asked in the questionnaire...something along the lines of - have you ever been involved in a civil trial and were you satisfied with the outcome - To which I answered yes to the first half and no to the second half. The truism is that I was not happy with the whole procedure as it is a no win kind of thing. Nobody came out totally satisfied, although we were vindicated in the process it was ugly and the lead up to and results of the trial at the very least will always weigh heavily on my heart and mind.

I try to always accept responsibility for my actions, right or wrong. I feel I did in that trial, but I'm never happy when a friend is hurt by my actions.

That said, I stand by my actions then and also by being forthright with the jury selection process that whatever sides counsel decided to pass me over. I would likely be better suited for a criminal trial jury if called upon and would be fine serving on such a jury even though the consequences of a criminal trial tend to be a little more harsh.

So, long story short, I wasn't trying to dodge trial duty, as you are suggesting, sir. Just stating the facts.

Hokay?

Cheers,-Klaus

Hey, Klaus. Here I am again, your most annoying questioner. I'm sure this is been asked numberous times, but the archive of awnsers is so long, I have no idea where to find it!!! I'm sure you know that there are tons of crunchy little DK rarities floating around. Songs like Cold Fish, Dreadlocks of the Suburds, Gaslight, Mutations of Today, etc. Now, why didn't you record those songs? Gaslight and Cold Fish were definatley good material, that never should have been wasted! Did 6025 not let you record Gaslight, yet he let you record Religous Vomit, Foward to Death, and Ill in the Head? That dosn't make much sense! Also, I have a copy of the DK's 1978 Demos, and they're in horrible quailty. What happened to those tapes to have such poor quality. Did you bash em' in with a hammer a few times? Seriously! I makes me wonder, how did you go about recording them, and how did they leak out? How do you feel about that? Well, I'm starting to ramble, I best put an end to it now! Best of Luck!

Hey Patrick,

O.k. Time to tackle a few more from the most enquiring of all the questionnaires.

Well mostly because they were jams of explorations that never got finished, although Gaslight did and appeared (finally) on the "Live at the Deaf Club" cd. Gaslight never made the cut for reasons I fail to recall. It would have probably been on"Fresh Fruit" if anything due to it's era and that there was space on the album. I think it was more of a
'It didn't fit in with the flow of the album' sort of decision.

As far as the 1978 "Demos:, they were never met as demo's, in fact i'm not quite sure which one of us recorded the original cassettes or if the practice studio did or whatever. They were definitely from a portable cassette machine from the era with a little crummy mic explaining the sound that you liken to bashing them with a hammer a few times. No, we didn't "Zelig" tapes back then, that sound just came naturally. How they
leaked out, I really haven't the faintest, I'm not even sure if I had a copy until the bootleg surfaced. I do remember having a reel to reel dub of "Cold Fish" and "Mexican Monster Babies" but I don't think I ever had a copy of "Gaslight" outside of the Deaf Club performance.

How do I feel about them leaking out? Basically neutral. We played those tunes such as they were once or twice and someone documented it. I think they are an interesting glimpse into our collaborative creative process, but not a very good recording of same.

Cheers,-Klaus
Sorry for the slow response. If this were a pizza delivery service the pizza would be very cold by now. Fortunately it's neither a pizza parlor or an ad agency, only a lowly webpage.

Had you been doing the droning-A/melody on the D string thing before you joined the Dead Kennedys? You were the first person I ever heard doing that, and to this day I associate that sound with you. And more metaphysically, after the expanse and experimentation on Frankenchrist, what led to the tightening up of the traditional punk vibe on Bedtime for Democracy? Thanks for the great music over the years -
Allan

Hey Allan,

Ummm... Soooo..here we are a year and a half later. sorry but some emails snuck by me and I'm just now catching up.

Actually I don't remember using that direct line, but it was inspired by a combination of Velvet Underground drone stuff and Led Zeppelin (Dazed and Confused). Who knew?

Being that Bedtime was recorded after we had officially called it quits for the time being, but still had this body of work to be recorded, I think it was a bit of a return to not the Fresh Fruit era as much as the hardcore-ish In God We Trust Inc. fast and faster sound. Each of the albums has sort a specific sound but all of them sound like DK's as opposed to sounding like whatever was in vogue per say at the time. Hope
that makes some sense.

Thanks for the thanks.

Hi Klaus,

Always have been a big fan of your work. DK's formed much of the soundtrack of my youth (and i'm pushing 40!), i have been looking for many years for a copy of "Thingie". in fact, the track on your website is the first i've ever heard, and it's as great as i knew it would be. could you possibly steer me in the right direction to locate a copy of it? it's pretty much my "Holy Grail" of unheard music, so any help would be much appreciated. thanks, and keep up the great work!

Hey John,

Glad to hear you're a fan. Glad to hear you're pushing 40. Shoot for another 40 after that. The times should be interesting to put it mildly.

Comparing "Thingie" to the "Holy Grail" makes me somewhat worried for you, but I still take it as a compliment. The trouble with it that made it so hard to get was the packaging, and I gave it the go ahead so mia culpa. The track listing had two of the tracks reversed and there was no bar code so stores wouldn't touch it. At least that's why I like to think they wouldn't touch it.

I have about 5 copies left so if you send me a mailing address I'll get one out to you free of charge.

I'll also list the track correction on the shrink wrap of the disc, so as to avoid confusion.

Cheers,-Klaus

Hey Silvia,

(Worry not, I won't publish it here)

First question second. Answer-yes, but there's a lot.

Here are some of the atypical ones.

Imogen Heep
Greg Friedman
Zee Avi
St. Vincent
Regina Spektor
She & Him
M83
Lifehouse
Duckmandu
Anya Marina
Poe
Rock'n'roll Adventure Kids
Oranger
and the timeless...
Legendary Stardust Cowboy.

Keep in mind I have a collection of records dating back to the late 1800's...seriously, and it's very limiting to list only current stuff. There's lots of good stuff out there in a lot of genre's.

Hey Klaus,

I'm a 15 year old male from Ottawa, Ontario . I've been listening to Dead Kennedys for three months straight now because I love the bands message and the music. I hope one day you guys will tour Canada and I'd love to meet you guys, maybe with Jello too? Though I highly doubt that... I think you are a very talented and amazing bass player and you inspired me to start learning bass so I went out and a got a very nice red Fender Jazz Bass. I was wondering if there were any books or sites online where I could get music sheets for Dead Kennedys songs to play on my bass. You are my favorite bassist of all time and any other tips or pointers for practising or playing would be helpful too.

Thanks!

Hey Hunter,

Great to hear that you've discovered DKs but I'm not saying never, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a Canada tour anytime soon. But then again most anything is possible. If i ever get out Canada way you'll hear about it here.

A red Fender Jazz sounds like a cool choice. As for "books" with DK's
songs with the music to go along with it, I don't know of anything. i
know there are some pages with "Tabs", but they vary in accuracy.

My first thing I sort of patterned my bass laying after (after switching from guitar at 18) was some Jack Bruce, during the Cream (studio, not the live overplaying stuff) and "Songs for a Tailor" era. The point wasn't to learn the parts as such, as to absorb the lyricism and I liked his melodic style. I didn't know back then that he had had a jazz background, but I guess it shows on the Cream live stuff. I just liked that it was
not just a background instrument.

So my advice is just to be a sponge of music you like and then after getting the basics down try to do something slightly different with it.

Thanks for the compliments and keep in touch.

I will be glad if your permission can be got. I heard dead kennedys and grew up. Thank you. (I cannot speak English. Can he understand my text?tetsuya kanehara (from japan)

Hey Tetsuya,

I like DK's too. We have that in common.
I think all you have to do is make the cd and make sure the "Mechanicals"
(song writing percentages) and BMI info gets to the right people. You
don't need to get permission to record the song or cover it, but it's
nice (for the band/artists) if you make sure the credit goes where credit
is due.

And your English is WAY better than my Japanese and i understand it very
well.
klaus,
is there any way i can get an autograph form you? i must say the dk's are one of my favorite bands and you're quite an influential bassist as well.

on a final note i'd like to ask you a question obout the dead kennedys, if you don't mind.

how do you feel about jello selling out? are you opposed to it or do you not care?

also, how did you come up with your stage name? it's so cool!

ps, i play bass as well... i go to the pawn shop after school and hang out and play the basses until my bus comes... i'm thinking of probably buying one sometime so i can practice at home, too. so far i have mastered that one bass riff at the beginning of "holidya in cambodia"

Hey Alex,

In order of questions asked here we go, hang on...

A. Yes you can easily obtain an autograph from me by sending either
something you want autographed, or just your address to:

P.O. Box 6480
Albany, Ca. 94706

...and I'll send you something.

Influenza!!!!?!?!...oh I misread, influential. Ahh. The compliment is
graciously accepted and the secret ingredient is follow the route notes
when necessary, but whenever you get a chance offer up a counter melody.
Don't tell anybody.

About Jello, I'm not all that sure i can agree that he "sold out". I
think he had some unfortunate misjudgments in friends vs. finances, but
we're all human and we all make mistakes. We all also should be able to
let the past be the past and look toward bettering the future on a
personal and global basis. I don't think either Jello or any of the DK's
sold out as we never bought in in the first place.

Stage Name: we all were driving around town thinking up names and i came
up with Floss Chloride for the first try, but then changed the front
sounds and settled on Klaus Flouride. A germanic Kraftwerky sounding
thing plus a dig on the rotten teeth of Johnny Rotten. All the trade
secrets given freely here. Come and get em!!

Finally, good-on-ya as far as using the pawnshop to work on the bass and
getting the holiday riff. It's sort of like the listening booths that
record sores used to have decades ago and now have in the form of
headphones next to a few select tunes to listen to. If the pawnshop guy
is nice he'll give you a good deal on a bass as you have been in essence
an advert for his fine instruments by being there for others to see your
interest in them. if he is clueless to this free promo thing, you might
point it out to him when you do offer to buy one from him.

And my question. Curious as to what part of the world you're from as I am
with all the Q&A's that come here.

cheers,-Klaus
Murderface hit the nail on the head.....what I want to know is why you would like to have a beer with someone you screwed? I mean we all know Biafra wrote the majority of songs(and how he wrote them), if this wasn't the case, why did it take you close to 20 years to complain? Did you never look at the song writing credits on your own CD's?

Hey Morb,

Sorry, but I've fallen behind on my replies due to all sorts of foo over the past year or two.

That said....

First thing, I don't think I've ever "screwed" Biafra as you put it, in either the metaphorical or any other sense [See my reply to Murderface's query].

Secondly. I think we've (Biafra and the whole group), produced a body of work that we can be forever proud of. We did it as a combined effort, all of us putting things in. Parts of all of our musicality and knowledge as collectors and fans of music over time that other bands might not have. Indeed that is why I think DK's sounded different than any band before or since. You hear lots of bands that sound like other bands but for better
or worse there were really no DK sound-a-likes. We were a template that never caught on at the time we were making those albums. As for the collaboration and the 20 years to complain, Biafra laid out all the song writing percentages and we did the get along to get along thing never really thinking that it would come to what it did. But it was in every way a collaborative effort within the band.

So back to the first question, why would I like to have a beer etc....

Because we created a good thing and because he was and I would like to think (despite differences in opinions), could be friends again. And to add to that we had a beer together at a Mexican restaurant in the Mission in SF to celebrate the release of "Fresh Fruits.." just for the fact that we had done this thing it would seem fitting.

That I'd be happy to do again. Hell, I'd have a beer with you if you want if you were here or I was there. I like beer. Do you?
4-MAY-2009 | WILLIAM MURDERFACE

Flouride, 7 years after my escape from that infernal womb i came across a very lucid sound, the DEAD KENNEDY sound. i became entranced with it and completely fell into a gutter punk lifestyle, and love it.I despise the materialistic lifestyle and anyone who desires to find acceptance from a greater society. Also, I find it a fallacy the perpetual hiatus between Jello and the dead kennedy's. My question is, how does it feel to be the main source of the break- up in order to find a subtle form of fame.?

-Murderface

Hey William,

Glad you found DK's sound lucid. Never heard it been referred to it that way before. Also glad you've found a lifestyle that pleases you as for now. Good for you. Lots of people can't lay sake to that claim.

As for the perpetual hiatus of Jello from the Kennedy's, I'd have to say it is driven by the reality he lives in as opposed to the reality I choose to. But the overriding reality has to be remembered. The real life reality of a court trial (that was the only recourse after a year of failed negotiations) for better or worse ruled that Jello had indeed consciously injured his band mates. And he still feels no remorse for that act. Maybe he has to hold onto his reality to carry on with his daily life.

In my world I have to say that if he approached me or the band willing to play together or to just have a drink and rehash old times, I'd be there in a New York minute.

But that isn't the case. His stated terms are that we say that Jello was in the right all along, on the presumption that Jello is always right.

That is a condition that I cannot in good conscience live with.

And so it goes on.

Maybe some day we'll all see that bending a bit to each others realities would be a good thing, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

As for being the main source of the break up in order to find some subtle form of fame,..I don't know where exactly you get your facts, but it is usually wise to check with more than one source before laying judgement on people as you would have others do before judging you.

Bob Calhoun aka Count Dante

Hey Count,
It's been a while. How you doing? To answer you query, we recorded "demos" at both Atlantic and Columbia studios in New York, but all I have at this point is a copy of a copy of an acetate which sounds like it was recorded onto cassette with a mic in front of a speaker of a stereo at a listening party. So...not the highest quality.

No, nothing was ever released, and I have serious doubts if the masters still exist although that acetate has to be out there somewhere. I think at Atlantic one of the Ertegun's was in the studio, and at Columbia, I remember colossal bass player Harvey Brooks was twiddling the knobs and supposedly John Hammond Sr. (the reason we were invited there) stopped by during the recording/audition.

So this is out of the standard format, but shows what a cool thing the internet can be. Carrigan and I played together in a band in 1969 called Magic Terry and the Universe. Carrigan was Rhythm guitar, I was bass. Other members were Magic Terry (real name to be withheld unless he gives a go ahead) on Vocals and acting and general scrying, which is a cross between screeching and crying in anguish. Very theatrical and meant to be so. The drummer he mentioned "Indian Mike" was/is Mike Martuscello, now in the bay area (still need to get together with him for a beer or 3), and the lead guitar was Billy Squier. Yes that Billy Squier. I was of course "Bryce T. Lyall (on your radio dial) Jr. from Dee-troit".

We've since gotten in touch and plan to get together again sometime soon. A lot of water under the bridge since last we saw each other. Lotsa' catching up to do.

The unfinished first gig he mentioned... we were shut down by the venue for being to controversial. BANNED IN BOSTON!!! and so it went, the only show the group played outside of practice. Long story to be told by all sides sometime in the near future one hopes.
I owe you and the rest of the DKs a substantive portion of my life.

DK and the Toy Dolls turned me on to punk rock music. They taught me it could be just plain fun, and you taught me that it could be about serious issues that one cares about - that it wasn't just about being hateful and ugly, but about paying attention to what is happening and speaking out against the wrong things we see.

You managed to reach out and make music relevant to an autistic. I learned a lot from you guys, and I appreciate it greatly. You opened my mind, eyes, and heart to things I never thought I'd value...art, music among other things.

I'm sorry that Jello ended up doing what he did. It seems to be antithetical to who he always claimed to be, and that really bothers me.
So - at the end of my rambling story, I ask you this:

1. What is the greatest thing you think DK accomplished?
2. What do I have to do for an autographed photo of you?

Always a fan,

Bartleby the Scrivener

Hey Bartleby,

First off, you owe us nothing, we owe you for listening with an open head. I friggin' love the Toy Dolls, (just bought the double disc compilation they put pout and highly recommend it). They and the Dickies seem to be kindered souls on either side of the Atlantic.

As for Jello, he's human and made some mistakes, some grievous, and has paid dearly for them, The question is has he learned from them and found it o.k. to move on. I wold hope so, but I have had no indication from him that tha is so. Sadly. He's always welcome back in my life hopefully with a non-combative sense to things. I'd like to have a retrospective.conversation with him over a few beers and focus on the good stuff, but I think he's a bit of a way from there yet. Time flows very quickly.

As for dishonesty, we learn from children on to be conveniently
dishonest, especially in our adolescent years inre: our parents (for better or worse, but mostly to strike out on our own). But the
hope is we learn both vales that fly in the face of dishonesty and also
forgiveness as we mature. and there's no rule that says that we can't be forgiving but angry at situations at the same time. It gets difficult, as life does.

I however am just glad we made your life a tad more understandable and bearable, no matter who you credit that to within the group. I just don't like to judge and hold grudges. In that I'm not a rarity, but maybe an exception to the rule.

To answer your questions:

1. I think you and others like you, people who get the message that we're not telling you what to think, but to think for yourselves and (us)
doing it with good tunes in an interesting and entertaining way is our
biggest accomplishment, followed by giving a lot of people the drive to
start their own bands or to act on things that concern them politically
or socially.

2. Send me your address here (we'll keep it confidential) and you'll get it within a rather loose
parameter of time. But it will arrive.

Cheers,-Klaus

klaus, is there any way i can get an autograph form you? i must say the dk's are one of my favorite bands and you're quite an influential bassist as well.

on a final note i'd like to ask you a question obout the dead kennedys, if you don't mind.

how do you feel about jello selling out? are you opposed to it or do you not care?

also, how did you come up with your stage name? it's so cool!

ps, i play bass as well... i go to the pawn shop after school and hang out and play the basses until my bus comes... i'm thinking of probably buying one sometime so i can practice at home, too. so far i have mastered that one bass riff at the beginning of "holidya in cambodia"

Hey Alex,

In order of questions asked here we go, hang on...

A. Yes you can easily obtain an autograph from me by sending either
something you want autographed, or just your address to:

P.O. Box 6480
Albany, Ca. 94706

...and I'll send you something.

B. Influenza!!!!?!?!...oh I misread, influential. Ahh. The compliment is graciously accepted and the secret ingredient is follow the route notes when necessary, but whenever you get a chance offer up a counter melody. Don't tell anybody.

About Jello, I'm not all that sure I can agree that he "sold out". I think he had some unfortunate misjudgments in friends vs. finances, but we're all human and we all make mistakes. We all also should be able to let the past be the past and look toward bettering the future on a personal and global basis. I don't think either Jello or any of the DK's sold out as we never bought in in the first place.

Stage Name: we all were driving around town thinking up names and i came up with Floss Chloride for the first try, but then changed the front sounds and settled on Klaus Flouride. A germanic Kraftwerky sounding thing plus a dig on the rotten teeth of Johnny Rotten. All the trade secrets given freely here. Come and get em!!

Finally, good-on-ya as far as using the pawnshop to work on the bass and getting the holiday riff. It's sort of like the listening booths that record sores used to have decades ago and now have in the form of headphones next to a few select tunes to listen to. If the pawnshop guy is nice he'll give you a good deal on a bass as you have been in essence an advert for his fine instruments by being there for others to see your
interest in them. if he is clueless to this free promo thing, you might point it out to him when you do offer to buy one from him.

And my question. Curious as to what part of the world you're from as I am with all the Q&A's that come here.

cheers,-Klaus
Hey Klaus,
I have been a big Dead Kennedys fan for a really long time..I got started on Green Day and looked into their Influences and REALLY got into you guys. You are a REALLY big influence to me, and my band. I also play bass! I am always fascinated by the riffs..they always get me. I have a question..or two. Do you ever look on youtube and see old interveiws of the Dead Kennedys and get fed up because Jello does most/all of the talking? AND...Do you still keep in touch with Jello, or see him?, or are you guys doing your own thing and never have time..or just never wanna see each other? AND...one last one..for real..What does punk mean to you, and how do you think kids these days are taking it WAY out of proportion...or being to poser-ish? I like to be as punk as possible, but asking one of the biggest punk idols would give me a good idea of everything
Thanks much!,
Mija

Hey Mija,

Glad DK's and the bass riffs have reached you. good that you have a band too. It's always good to hear that we have gotten people to start their own bands.

I look up you tube vids rather infrequently, although I should check more often as more often than not I'll see something I never knew was out there. No, it doesn't bother me at all that Biafra did most of the talking. He was and still is pretty good at it, plus it is usually the interviewers choice to go to the singer for talking points.

We are unfortunately less and less in touch, mostly be Biafra's choice, which is just how it is now. If that should change I would be fine with that, but I'm not holding my breath.

What does punk mean to me? Basiacally a lot of things mostly revolving around thinking for ones self, questioning the motives of anyone who speaks in absolutes, and being aware of what's going on around you and seeing if one can add anything constructive to a situation, or just let it figure out it's own path, be it a person or a movement.

I'm the last one to say what the "rules" of punk are and to decide who is punk and who's a poser. I'm not quite sure what you mean about taking it way out of proportion, because I'm not sure what part of "it" you are speaking to.

And one of the biggest punk idols...you very generous. I'm not quite sure how to take that compliment so I'll just leave it with thank you.

Dear Mr. Flouride-

Greetings from Boston - I have a quick, historical question to ask of you.

For the last five years or so, I have been researching Joy Division's canceled US tour of the US and Canada, slated to take place May-June 1980:

http://www.joydiv.org/cancel.htm

ML Compton and his partner Skip had told me that they believed Dead Kennedys were booked to play with Joy Division on or about June 9, 1980 at The Starwood in Los Angeles, CA. Tom Recchion of B People has told me that they were only going to do the Wong's gig, and not The Starwood show.

Does this ring any bells with you sir? Anything you might be able to tell me would be spectacular.

I have very little info about the proposed San Francisco show other than the venue. Members of Tuxedomoon and The Sleepers have told me they knew nothing of the show. There is rumor that Flipper were supposed to support, but I have not asked Steve yet.

Anything you might be able to tell me would be incredible.

If you need a personal reference on me, Eugene Robinson (Oxbow/Whipping Boy) is an old friend. I actually grew up in SF (Douglass and 17th) but moved to Boston and 1994 and have not been back to California since 2000. My older brother used to go and see the DK's quite a bit in the early 1980's.

I look forward to hearing from you sir.

Cheers,
Nick Blakey

Hi Nick,

I feel I'm revisiting this question by way of trying to catch up on
backlogged emails.

I have no memory of any pending gig with Joy Division back then and I know we never did play the Starwood.

Our management might have been approached at some point during that time, but it never filtered down to us as far as I can remember.

Hope that helps some. you might want to contact Biafra through
Alternative Tentacles and see if he recollects anything of the sort, but
I'm guessing it's sort of a never really happened, but wouldn't it be
cool if it did sort of situation.

I would have loved to play a show with Joy Division or to have even been considered.

Cheers,-Klaus
No offense taken. A lot of people think it was all one sided, which
nothing ever is. You had a comment to make, and I answered you in kind, I don't see any reason to lash out nowadays. The thing we did with DK's was bigger than any one of us was singly and I just want people to know I appreciate that and try to honor it.

Hey Ben,

I generally use Fender white heavy picks and to work off nerves before a gig I tend to sign a bunch and if someone says they're a bass player they get one. So, no, they're not manufactured / priinted, but done by hand. Although it's not exclusive to bass players, but that's the auto
Back in 80' I turned on everyone I could get to listen to the DK's, changed many and lost some, including a fiance, thanks, I mean it.

Hey Russ,

Well, I'm not so sure that the litmus test of "DK'"s is all that accurate for the judgement of friends. A lot, I think, would depend at the very least on the song, but more importantly what they meant to you and you to them outside of that narrow window let alone their actions toward you.. not a criticism, just an observation. Maybe (depending on the time frame and your state of openess at the time) you might want to reconnect with those people and see where they are at now. Times change, people grow, and second chances are very graceful.

That said, thank you for the promo work and appreciation of our work. And playing in Houston...hell, that's where my brother lives as well as a nephiew and whatever a nephew's kids are called (second nephews? ..my kid knows all those family line things), so I'd love to given the chance and the right circumstances. As i've got more chance of getting hens teeth over here in Scotland!!!! have fun take care and Cheery Bye......... Dave..................

Hey Dave,

Dundee!! Lord, they come from far and wide. I've a good friend in Scotland although I've never been to his place of residence, I do really like Scotland as a place to be in in general.

Touring there? Hope to do sometime with what ever incarnation of a band I'm playing in. I've learned over time (as I've said here before) to never say never (with the possible exceptions of violent acts, cheating on my girl and certain drugs).

As for your question about releasing new and old solo material, thank you for asking, and, yes. I do hope to have some new stuff out soon and a possible limited edition coming down the pipe of all the previous releses from this site. More details as we figure them out. (Still looking for masters of the old stuff to remaster, etc.)

So, if all goes well, I'll have stuff to offer you that will unfairly outnumber hens teeth in your area in the near future.

Klaus,
Just like the majority of folks that have taken the time to write in here, I'm a huge fan. I've started a project where I ask everyone I've met one question and while, clearly, we've never met, you're someone I admire and I thought I'd ask it of you. So here it is:

If you could ask everyone you met one question, what would you ask?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and for taking the time to respond to each inquiry that has been posted. It may be a hassle, but it really makes you a human being rather than a detached rock star asshole.

Cheers!

Ty

Hey Ty,

Thanks for the compliment And I try to hold myself down to being a rock astroid asshole as opposed to a rock star asshole. This is my goal here. Seems to be working.

One question, so unfair, especially since your one question puts the weight on everyone you ask it of while you sort of get off scot-free. It's like the genie with the 3 wishes. no offense, but it's a tough one, like what's my favorite song in that it is constantly changing as I experience each day and (hopefully) grow as a result of living and questioning myself and the world.

That said, I'd say (today at this moment) that a good question might be what is their earliest memory and why do they think it is their first memory and what does it mean to them and what feelings does it bring up. I know..really a three part question, but hey, as I said, an almost impossible task.

On the other hand i rarely if ever fill out the question lists that turn up on myspace and facebook. Who needs to know that you just couldn't have a face to face talk with?

Ahh well, that's all I have for an answer to your question. But keep questioning, and be well, but might I suggest that you expand the real estate of the questions you might ask.
